The Power of “Us” in Marriage
Last week, Lisa and I had the opportunity to attend a marriage retreat at WinShape in Rome, Georgia. As we reflected on our journey, we were reminded how much God has been shaping our calling over the past year.
Around this same time last year, during a WinShape retreat, we sensed the Lord speaking clearly to us that it was time to “go our own way” and step into the “promised land.” That moment became the catalyst for what would eventually become Lasting Legacy Collective.
At this year’s retreat, one theme stood out to us in a fresh and powerful way: “us-ness.”
Marriage is the only place in Scripture where we see the idea that two people actually become one flesh. There is something sacred and mysterious about that kind of unity.
As it says in Ephesians 5:31–32:
“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.”
The concept of “us-ness” deeply resonated with us as we continue gaining clarity around the mission and vision of Lasting Legacy Collective.
One realization that has surfaced is that the LLC brand may have unintentionally become a bit too “Chris-centric,” when our true desire is for it to be more “us-centric.” After all, the heart of what we’re building is something Lisa and I believe we are called to steward together.
While we are still refining our formal mission and vision statements, what we know at a heart level is this:
We desire to help leaders and couples flourish in faith, marriage, and leadership—so their lives reflect a lasting legacy.
Practically speaking, this calling currently takes shape in three primary ways:
- Premarital & Early Marriage Support
Walking alongside couples as they prepare for marriage and supporting them through the first five years of their journey together through intentional community and engagement.
- Leadership & Marriage Alignment
Coming alongside business owners and executives to help align faith, marriage, family, and vocation through one-on-one and group coaching—for both the leader and their spouse.
- Intentional Community
Cultivating a community of couples who are intentionally living on purpose for the glory of God’s Kingdom.
While these are some of the ways we are walking out this calling, the deeper heartbeat behind it all is this idea of “us-ness.”
We believe God designed marriage not just for companionship, but as a powerful reflection of unity, purpose, and partnership.
If this resonates with you, we would love to connect and hear more about what this might look like in your own marriage.
