How to Hear God’s Voice in Everyday Life

Most of us long to hear God’s voice, but few of us expect Him to speak through a little yellow bird.

Years ago, while sitting on my porch, I prayed a simple, almost child-like prayer:

“God, could You send a sign that I’m on the right path?”

Minutes later, a yellow bird landed in the tree across the yard, and peace flooded my heart.
Skeptical? So was I. But over the years, that same bird — or others like it — would appear in moments when I most needed reassurance.

It wasn’t about the bird. It was about learning to listen.

God speaks to each of us differently. Sometimes through Scripture.
Sometimes through circumstances or people. Sometimes through a quiet reminder that says, “You’re not alone.”

We live in a world that rewards noise and hurry, but God still prefers whispers.
When we slow down, pay attention, and hold our questions before Him, we begin to recognize His distinct, recognizable voice.

So pause today. Step outside.
Listen not just with your ears, but with your heart.
He may speak through something as ordinary as a yellow bird.

Reflection Question:
What’s one subtle way God might already be speaking in your everyday life that you’ve been too busy to notice?

This reflection comes from Chapter 4 of From Success to Surrender.
If you’ve ever wondered how to recognize God’s guidance, this chapter will help you listen for His still, small voice.
