Are you weary doing good?
Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Do you have a sense of purpose or calling to your work, yet, still grow weary at times?
There was a time not long ago that I knew God had called me in a particular direction, however, I was a bit weary as I still wasn’t seeing the fruits of my labor. One day, during a particularly challenging time, I had a meeting that I wasn’t truly enthused about attending. So, as I was walking out the door, I prayed to God asking whether or not I really needed to attend this meeting. After the prayer, it was my sense that, “yes”, I was supposed to go.
Having felt God’s desire for me to be at the meeting, I arrived with a bit more optimism. Searching for the reason I was present and not finding it, I began to grow a bit weary again. During the course of the discussions, Galatians 6:9 was referenced: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” You would have thought this would have hit me like a brick on the side of the head; however, it blew right past me.
Throughout the meeting, I continued to periodically ask God why I was there. I even started to doubt whether it was God’s voice I thought I sensed in making the decision to attend, or simply my wishful desire. At the conclusion of the meeting, I walked out the door and said, “well, not sure what that one was all about” and started to become a bit weary reflecting on the rest of my day knowing that I might have just “wasted” 1 ½ hours of it.
On the car ride home, I had the radio tuned to one of my favor Christian radio stations. As they do often, they shared a verse for the day. It was Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Well, while it blew past me earlier in the day, this time it hit me like that “brick on the side of my head”. You see, I was looking all around at the meeting thinking God had me there to meet someone. When in reality, God had me there to teach me something. It was at that point that I recognized that it was even more clear that I was “doing good” and He will reward me with a harvest in His “proper timing”. While I would have loved that time to be my timing, I have clearly learned that God’s timing and my timing rarely coincide.
So, do you have a confidence that you’re doing His work? Chances are God has you right where he needs you today. Recognizing this, the next time you start to grow weary doing good, remember today’s message.
