Marriage Spotlight: Thomas & Sophie

A wedding celebrates a day. A marriage begins a legacy.

That thought came to mind as we reflected on Thomas and Sophie’s wedding this past Friday. It was a beautiful day in a beautiful setting, but what stood out to us most was not simply the venue, the flowers, or all the details that had been carefully planned. It was the relationships in the room and the connection between the two people standing at the altar.

One of the things we noticed almost immediately during the ceremony was how focused Thomas and Sophie were on one another. They held eye contact for an unusually long amount of time, rarely looking away even as the ceremony continued around them. Anyone who has stood at the front of a room during a wedding knows how difficult that can be. There are people everywhere, emotions running high, and plenty of distractions. Yet they seemed remarkably present with one another.

That felt fitting for the day.

There were meaningful moments throughout the wedding that reflected how deeply connected both of them are to the people around them. Watching Sophie with her dad and Thomas with his mom during their dances was one of those reminders that a wedding is never just about two people. It brings together families, histories, relationships, and years of influence that helped shape the bride and groom long before they arrived at the altar.

Thomas’s grandmother was another part of that story. She shared about the amount of time Thomas had spent with her over the years and the role she played in helping shape his faith. It was a reminder of how much influence can be carried through ordinary relationships over time. Sometimes the people who make the greatest difference in our lives are simply the ones who consistently show up, spend time with us, and live their faith in front of us.

For us, the wedding also carried a sense of history because we have known and invested in people within Sophie’s family and circle of friends for a number of years. Lisa had previously mentored Anna, Sophie’s sister, along with others who were there that day, and more recently we have had the privilege of walking alongside Thomas and Sophie through their premarital preparation.

That made several conversations at the wedding especially meaningful. Family members and others expressed appreciation not simply for helping prepare Thomas and Sophie for the ceremony, but for the idea of continuing to invest in couples after the wedding day. It reinforced something that has become increasingly important to us.

We do not want our relationship with a couple to end when Chris says, “You may kiss your bride.”

In many ways, that is when the relationship is just beginning.

Our hope is to continue walking alongside Thomas and Sophie as they move into married life, not simply as a couple we once prepared for a wedding, but as part of a growing community of couples who are learning, encouraging one another, and building strong marriages together. We want to be available in the years ahead, and we want them to know they are connected to others who are on the same journey.

That is part of what makes this season so meaningful for us. The goal is not simply to help couples get to the wedding day. It is to remain present as they begin building the marriage that comes after it.

Thomas and Sophie are surrounded by a strong family legacy, and now they have the opportunity to begin adding to that story in their own way.

So this week, we simply want to celebrate them.

Thomas and Sophie, you had a beautiful wedding, but even more importantly, you have a beautiful opportunity ahead of you.
