Are You Taking Control… or Taking Responsibility?

There’s a subtle but critical difference between carrying what’s yours and clinging to what’s not.
Most leaders blur that line.
Especially faith-driven ones.
We want to do things right. We want to be good stewards. We want to be responsible.
So we hustle harder.
Hold tighter.
Try to manage everything we can.
And in the process, we often end up controlling outcomes God never asked us to carry.
I know the feeling.
When I was navigating financial strain and leadership uncertainty, I would tell myself:
“I’m just being responsible.”
“This is what stewardship looks like.”
But if I’m honest?
It was fear.
Disguised as maturity.
And here’s the truth that hit me like a ton of bricks:
God never asked me to control outcomes.
He asked me to trust Him with them.
Want a realignment check?
Ask yourself:
- Am I being responsible… or am I trying to prevent something I’m afraid of?
- Is this decision coming from peace or pressure?
- Have I invited God into this, or am I handling it on my own?
Leadership isn’t about knowing everything or fixing everything.
It’s about knowing what’s yours to carry—and what belongs in God’s hands.
Because that’s where peace comes from.
And peace, not pressure, is where real fruit begins.
