Are You Running Your Business—or Is It Running You?
If you’re like most high-capacity leaders, you didn’t start your business or career to lose yourself in it.
You started with vision, purpose, and conviction.
But over time, the machine you built began to run itself—and slowly, it started running you.
I know, because I’ve been there.
From the outside, I had what most would call a successful business and life.
But inside, I was exhausted. I didn’t realize how much of my identity had become entangled with the outcomes.
It wasn’t until a moment of stillness that I sensed the question:
“Whose agenda are you leading?”
That question shifted everything.
Suddenly, I had to wrestle with what I had assumed versus what I had discerned.
Was I leading a mission—or just maintaining momentum?
Was I chasing a calling—or just checking boxes?
It’s easy to confuse external success with internal alignment.
But true leadership requires reflection, not just reaction.
So here’s a challenge:
Take 15 minutes this week. Get quiet. And ask yourself:
-
Who set the goals I’m chasing right now?
-
Is this pace sustainable—or just expected?
-
What would change if I led from a place of peace instead of pressure?
If that question hits home, you’re not alone. I explore this journey in my upcoming book, From Success to Surrender.

The most powerful thing a leader can do isn’t to push harder—it’s to pause and realign.
