Are you anxious?

Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Do you find yourself anxious at times? Is there an upcoming decision in your business that you’re wrestling over a bit? Or, maybe, there is a particular relationship you’re uneasy about with a colleague or even a spouse or loved one. For others, it might be anxiety associated with money or financial security.
Whatever it is, a friend once shared with me God’s promise of peace which related to today’s text. Stepping back a few versus, Philippians 4:4-7 says:
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Thus, Paul shares a formula for peace that is: (1) Rejoice, (2) Rejoice some more, (3) Be gentle, (4) Know God is near, (5) Remove all anxiety, and (6) Pray about everything with a thankful heart.
Now, I don’t know about you, however, when someone first told me to “rejoice and rejoice some more” in times of anxiety, it didn’t feel like the best advice. Seriously, you want me to find joy in this situation? However, through encouragement and application, I have learned that Jesus promised to those who trust in Him, peace beyond anything this world can understand. In John 14:27 Jesus says: “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid”
So, whenever you find yourself in times of anxiety, I encourage you to apply today’s message.
