“Love and marriage, love and marriage, go together like a horse and carriage”

Today is our 22nd wedding anniversary. As seen in the picture, we rode off into the sunset in our “horse and carriage” never to look back Saturday evening, June 13th, 1992. While there have been bumps in the road, I can honestly say that the “carriage” has already held together well and carried us to this point of true joy and thankfulness for each other in our marriage. I truly thank God for this women and feel we are experiencing the type of marriage God intended in “becoming one flesh”.

“That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24 NIV)

Yes, “one flesh” is something we’ve grown to know and understand. While were not perfect, you would find that there is little we do without one another and most of life’s decisions are made with one another. As a result, to most, we’re know as Chris and Lisa versus our individual identify.

So, how has it worked so well? Well, first, our relationship centers on Christ. We both understand that we’re human, going to make mistakes, and the only perfect person to walk the earth was Jesus Christ. Thus, this is the firm foundation for which we stand.

While there are other factors, I attended a wedding by @MattHessel, TPCC, last summer in which he outlined 3 Keys to Marriage.

1) Encourage one another
2) Laugh with one another
3) Stay best friends

I would have to say that its my experience that these are in fact keys to a healthy marriage. In our own special way, we encourage one another with words, actions, and quality time. We laugh at each other when others look at us with no clue as to why we’re laughing. And, we were joined at the hip as best friends in high school and we still today would tell you without hesitation that we’re best friends.

So, baby, thanks for being who you are all these years and may God bless us with many more! Love ya, forever and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, etc!
